The Spring Dilemma

April 16, 2011

My friends over at NextGenBlog published my Spring Dilemma piece, a humorous look at the less-talked-about holiday season of Easter and Passover. Here’s a peek at the piece.

I’ve always enjoyed Passover. Even as a kid, the ceremonial seder and meal can be made quite fun with singing, re-enacting the ten plagues, and the four cups of wine (okay maybe that part becomes more enjoyable as you get into the teenage years and beyond).

But truth be told, it’s hard to compete with Easter. The bunnies, chicks, baskets of toys, Cadbury Eggs, the thrill of finding plastic colored eggs filled with jelly beans and chocolate. What kid wouldn’t like that? And let’s be honest, matzo pales in comparison to this sort of spring loot.

By the way, those you loyal Leah’s Thoughts readers may recall I posted the original (slightly different) version of this piece last year entitled Chocolate Bunnies vs. Matzo: The Spring Dilemma, complete with cute photos of the Easter Beagle and Matzo Beagle.

Great blog Leah! thank you for sharing. JB and I read it together as we were just talking about how we would handle this time of year as if/when we get to that point. As of now, he’s experiencing Seder for the first time on Monday! :)

Also, we’re loving OC. If we didn’t have a wedding here, we had talked about making it down to San Diego. Another time I hope we can, would love to meet!

I’m glad you enjoyed the post. I hope JB’s first seder is a good one. I’ve always enjoyed Passover, and I hope you two have a nice one. And yes, one day we’ll need to meet. I’d love that!

Your picture says it all. Matzo with jam or candy? No brainer there!

Hi Leah, I was googling some Matzah recepies last night and guess what your post popped out, this one: Matzo Stuffing: A Jewish Twist on Thanksgiving.
I cliked on it and was like: OMG, I know this lady, I know her!!!
    I am sorry I can’t help you with your dilema…. , I always pick chocolate over anything….

OMG, WOW! That is so exciting and explains why that post has been getting a big number of hits the last few days. That stuffing is good, by the way. We’re having it Monday night. Have a great Passover.

I love both holidays too! I love matzo with butter best except when I’m in the mood for chocolate! Hiding the Afikomen is one of my favorite parts, too….heading over to read your post!

I LOVE matzo with butter. And Sophie’s favorite part now is the hiding of the Afikomen (actually finding it). Thanks for reading and commenting!

I enjoyed your post. We have something new for tomorrow night: I discovered a Haggadah called The Thirty Minute Seder. My kids and granddaughter are cheering.
I have a Miriam’s cup, too. Bought it last year after attending a Women’s Seder.
    Happy Holiday

Hope your Passover is a nice one. Please tell me how the 30-minute seder goes. That may be my 2012 Passover plan!

Popped in from SITS! Easter is my favorite holiday!

Saw you on SITS Girls! Just wanted to comment how much that picture sums up my childhood! While everyone else seemed to get so excited for Easter treats, I was putting my favorite bread into the freezer :( I try and enjoy this holiday for the tradition, and not so much for the food. Although I definitely stock up on charoset since it’s the sweetest thing on the table!

What do you think? I love hearing from you!
