The Summer List
We are now officially on summer break! This is the first summer I’ve had since my high school years where I don’t have to work in an office and be gone every summer day. Don’t get me wrong — I’m still working everyday. But I am SO excited to enjoy the summer days like never before.
Sophie and I put together our summer list of things to do (here’s the summer 2011 list). Sophie and I brainstormed ideas. I wrote the words and she did the illustrations. What’s in store for Summer 2012 list … Take a look!
Thus far, we have actually accomplished four things on the list. We planted pumpkin seeds, went to the Aquarium and KidVentures, and Sophie got her summer haircut! This haircut was all her idea. She wanted her Aunt Kayli to cut her hair like last year. Here’s the result …
She LOVES her new ‘do and asks me everyday if her hair is still short. Monday starts Sophie’s preschool summer camp. So we’ll be filling our afternoons, evenings, weekends, and non-camp days with our list of activities.
Happy Summer! What do you have planned over the next few months?

You’ve already been very busy. I realized this is my first summer that isn’t a “summer vacation” from school. Seems sort of weird. I usually started a mental “to do” list in May– now I don’t have the August deadline so will have to be more diligent about getting things done. I saved things like– cleaning out closets, donating old clothes and books, etc. for this time of year. Have a great summer! Will you be submitting blog posts — July 1 (ish).
Yes, I will be submitting by July 1! It’s on my summer list (not included on Sophie’s colorful chart).
Gosh she’s just darling .. what a sweet haircut and a sweet, sweet list
MJ
Thanks, MJ. She loves her new cut too.
What a great list — I always loved making these with the kids! And Sophie’s hair is adorable! Have a great summer togehter, what fun!
Thanks, Julia. I’m excited to be able to enjoy summer for the first time.
I’ve never thought of making a summer list, but I have a hard time thinking of things to do spur of the moment so this would be a big help to me to figure out things to do. Although my area is severely limited in cool stuff to do unfortunately. Maybe I will make a list today. Thanks for the inspiration!
You’re welcome. Did you end up making the list? BTW, I didn’t think of all those things in one day. I’ve been keeping a list since spring break.
Yes, I did make a list. I’m in the process of making a second list of all in the house activities when it is too hot to go out or for rainy days. It is definitely nice to have something to refer to when I’m at a loss of what to do!
Love the short hair and the list. I just might have to steal some of your ideas.
Please do! And let me know what’s on your summer list.
Look at that list! Sophie will be a busy girl this summer.
She looks so cute with short hair!
Thanks, Ariana! She will be busy all right!
I love that hairstyle on Sophie! It looks great. I might have to steal it now that I can finally cut off this wedding hair! Looks like a great summer ahead — enjoy!
I did the same thing – cut the hair after the wedding. It’s liberating in a way! Mazel Tov to you!
Since I had last summer off for maternity leave, I’m totally jealous that you get to spend the entire summer with Sophie, Leah. What fun!
As a short-haired girl myself, I LOVE Sophie’s new ‘do. She looks cute and — dare I say it — quite hip for her age (ironically, using “hip” may show just how hold I am). I hope everything gets checked off and that you get to do so many fun things this summer that they make next summer’s list even longer!
Thanks, Lorena. I’ve always thought your short hair was super hip too!
Aw, thanks, Leah!
Wow, good for you for being so organised! What I really want to work on this Summer is my w.i.p. I’d like to have it almost finished or finished by the end of the Summer. We’ll see!
Good luck. I know you can do it, Elizabeth! Keep me posted.
I love Sophie’s new haircut~ it’s very befitting! And I love your summer list of fun things to do. Even at 15yr, my younger daughter still likes to do this (without the illustrations at this point
Ha ha, too funny about the illustrations! I love that your daughter still wants to do this. I hope Sophie does when she’s 15.
Awwh, love the haircut and she is so adorable. Summer is never boring in our household. So many family reunions going on this time of year and just other local festivities that the kids get involved with. That’s a great list by the way. Have a great weekend.
Thanks! I’d love to hear about your summer weekends and family reunions and picnics. Those are the best!
I am thinking that maybe Sophie, with that adorable new hair cut, would enjoy making seed balls this summer. I can make that happen!
We do need to add the seed balls to our list! I want to contact you about the project too.
what a lucky girl!! I love that idea. AND, I remember when you did this last year which shows you how long I’ve read your blog!
That’s right, Nina! It’s neat that we’ve been reading each other’s writing for so long now. I’m glad!
