Beautiful Lanterns Everywhere

August 28, 2011

Sophie and I recently broadened our horizons to attend the San Diego Lantern Festival. This beautiful evening featured 6, 000 lanterns, lion dancers, cultural performances, and carnival rides. The festival took place in the San Diego community of City Heights, one of the culturally-richest  neighborhoods in the city. We loved the lanterns, and I like that it was sponsored by the neighborhood with the proceeds directly benefiting the community.

What a great festival! When I lived in San Diego, I don’t ever remember this….is it a new festival? Your little Sophie is a sweetie pie….and it looked like she was having fun!

Why yes, it is new. This is only the second year. Hopefully it will continue because I think it’s great for the community.

So beautiful! Do they hold the festival every year? If they do, I’ll definitely put it on my calendar next year.

I had no idea this was such a great event. Sophie is so lucky to have you for a mom to expose her to all these great experiences.

Thanks, Susan. I really enjoy doing all these different things and hope Sophie appreciates them too.

Wow! How beautiful, Leah! I’m a bit jealous of all that vibrant color and culture as we sweat it out in 100-plus-degree heat out here in the desert. Looks lovely (and like Sophie had a BLAST).

    • August 29, 2011 9:20 pm

I know I shouldn’t complain about weather, but it was pretty dang hot and humid here in San Diego over the last week. You’re a brave soul with that desert heat.

Yes, those boots truly make the outfit, don’t they? All her choice, of course!

Leah – after returning from a ten day trip on the road that entailed me leaving my sweet 17 year old in another state to start school so seeing you beautiful girl and those totally cool pink boots brought a wee tear to my eye. Ask Sophie is she’ll lend them to me.. Lovely post as ever.

    • August 29, 2011 9:22 pm

Ah thanks Brenda. That means a lot to me. I’m sure Sophie will be happy to lend you her boots too.
