Holy GothamBox … and a Giveaway!
Before I go too deep into this post, I want to say that despite the title, this piece has nothing to do with the Batman movie, Warner Bros., or the tragedy that took place in Colorado last week. My heart goes out to the families and friends of those victims, and to the city of Aurora.
Congratulations Ariana from Pearl’s Twirl. You won the GothamBox!
Not long ago I was approached by a new venture called GothamBox asking me if I’d be interested in hearing about a box of foods from your favorite city (hence Gotham – city that is) delivered to your door. I was intrigued by this concept and asked to learn more.
The GothamBox company was started by Shawn and Jonathan as a way to bring your favorite city’s foods and restaurants to your doorstep. Remember the days of college or camp “care packages” that mom sent you? By the way, my mom never sent me a care package, nor did I go to overnight camp … but I digress!
The GothamBox is like that care package – only you can send it to yourself (or you can purchase it for a friend or family member). It’s essentially a curated box of your favorite city’s most enticing food shipped to you. So if you miss living in the San Francisco Bay Area or find yourself craving New York’s best eats, you can subscribe to receive a monthly GothamBox of local fare. You can read more about GothamBox and the founders’ stories on the company’s Facebook page.
Being as I am a foodie and I like supporting local businesses, I decided to give the GothamBox a shot. A few weeks later, I received my San Francisco GothamBox on my doorstep. Needless to say, Sophie and I were quite excited when this package arrived!
The GothamBox contained a jar of honey from the Bay Area Bee Company, a Two Degrees snack bar, and a a bag of healthy snacks from The Good Bean. I really liked the variety of items that came in the box, especially the fact that all the items are from local and independent shops. Since I cannot personally shop at all the country’s locally-owned businesses (but wouldn’t that be a fun trip?), the GothamBox is a nice way to support small business ventures. I also like the fact that for every subscription or gift you purchase, GothamBox will donate a meal to help end hunger in your Gotham City.
Are YOU interested in trying GothamBox? The company was nice enough to offer one of my readers a FREE GothamBox delivered to YOUR door! Just leave a comment and tell me what your Gotham City would be and you’ll be entered to win. The winner will be selected via random.org on Friday, July 27 at 10 pm PT.
