    Lovely series! Enjoy your vacation.

    • August 9, 2011 10:24 pm

Thank you! But I must say, it’s not a vacation. Just a regular Saturday afternoon in my hometown. Don’t throw anything at me!

  2. August 9, 2011 3:05 am

Boy do these photos make me miss the San Diego beaches!! You just don’t get beaches like that in Maine, and growing up in California spoiled me! Sophie is absolutely priceless in these pictures; I especially love she and Bryan playing in the sand — brings back wonderful memories of my kids being that age on visits to California beaches! Thank you for a lovely photo visit to a favorite place!

    • August 9, 2011 10:25 pm

Oh, thanks for your nice words! I like the photos of her and Bryan too. Great memories. I know from your Sunday videos, however, Maine has its share of treasures. Maybe we need to switch lives for a few weeks, seeing as I’m envious of your state and you of mine.

  3. August 9, 2011 3:08 am

Nothing like a great beach day! Lovely photos.

  4. August 9, 2011 4:05 am

Awesome! Looks you all had a fabulous time. Thanks for sharing your wonderful day with us. I agree no words are necessary, all of your smiles says it all. 🙂

    • August 9, 2011 10:26 pm

Ah, thanks so much! I love seeing Sophie smile. It makes my day.

  5. August 9, 2011 4:10 am

Beautiful. Now I want to go to the beach. 🙂

    • August 9, 2011 10:26 pm

The door (and coast) is always open to you!

  6. August 9, 2011 5:50 am

Oh…Leah! I love the pictures! I used to live in San Diego – on Coronado – and I just loved it! However, like many do, I retired to Florida! Great pictures, Thanks!

    • August 9, 2011 10:27 pm

Thanks, Ann. I didn’t know you lived in Coronado. I love that community. It’s so beautiful there too.

  7. August 9, 2011 5:54 am

Wow, such beautiful pictures! Now that’s summer 🙂

    • August 9, 2011 10:28 pm

As I said to someone else above, my door (and the shore) are always open to you! We did have a great time. It was neat to see Sophie love the beach so much.

  10. August 9, 2011 7:00 am

Now, this is summer! I remember last summer when it was so cold all summer long. Looks like you’re all having a wonderful summer, taking advantage of the lovely weather we’re having. Great pix!

    • August 9, 2011 10:28 pm

Thanks, Monica! You know, it’s been a pretty cold summer this year too. Luckily that day was a nice one.

Thanks! It’s so neat to see how happy something like the beach makes Sophie. Makes me appreciate the simple things in life more.

  14. August 9, 2011 9:52 am

Love these Leah! Thanks for sharing your day with us. I can almost smell the salt in the air!

    • August 9, 2011 10:30 pm

Thanks, Kim! You’re not too far from the beach yourself.

  15. August 9, 2011 10:29 am

Oh how I love the water. Enjoy.

  16. August 9, 2011 10:57 am

So jealous of you today.. There is nothing better than the beach (says the water person). It cleanses the soul and takes away anything negative. Fabulous photos.. And that wee person of yours is a heart stealer… Dad is going to have a tough time as she grows up. Such a sweetie.

    • August 9, 2011 10:31 pm

I think Dad is already having a tough time as she grows! Thanks for your nice comments. Isn’t it funny how just breathing the air and seeing the waves and shore does make you calmer?

  17. August 9, 2011 3:44 pm

Fabulous! Such a sweet (and beautiful!) family!

  18. August 9, 2011 4:14 pm

Lucky you! Looks like the perfect vacation. Beautiful pictures!

    • August 9, 2011 10:32 pm

I hate to say this (for fear of being smacked), but it’s just a Saturday in my hometown of San Diego. I know, I’m very lucky. Thanks for visiting and commenting!

  19. August 9, 2011 5:54 pm

Wow! People promise not to say that when they’re on Antiques Roadshow, but I can’t help it, here! Thanks for sharing, Leah!

    • August 9, 2011 10:32 pm

Ha ha, that’s too funny! Thanks for your comment. You make me smile.

Thanks, Kate. You’re not too far from that beach area, are you?

  21. August 9, 2011 7:38 pm

    Looks absolutely heavenly!

    • August 9, 2011 10:33 pm

Thanks, Elizabeth. Something about the ocean and shore is calming, no matter how you feel that day. It was a nice afternoon.

  22. August 10, 2011 4:24 am

I love San Diego. I’m so sad I didn’t get to go to the beach this year!

  23. August 10, 2011 9:36 pm

Gorgeous shots!! You make me want to take a photography class 🙂

    • August 10, 2011 9:37 pm

Thanks, Erin! I have to tell you though, it’s a very old Kodak digital camera and I use to crop and edit the photos. Have you used Picnik? It’s free and so fun!

  24. August 11, 2011 10:12 am

Gorgeous! We love the beach too, though the pallor of our complexions would dictate otherwise… 😉

  25. August 11, 2011 12:58 pm

Great pictures!!! Also, your blog layout is fantastic. I’m constantly switching themes. Of course now this one looks enticing (though i think I’ve had it before.) The orange background is unexpected and works great.

    • August 14, 2011 8:41 pm

Thanks, Nina. I think the theme is Vigilance. I would never have chosen the background color on my own. I’m really fortunate to have a friend who is a talented graphic designer. She’s the one who designs my header and Project 365 sidebar. And she tells me which color to use in the background. And I’ve tried a few different WP themes; this one seems to work best for me.

  26. August 11, 2011 3:06 pm

A day on the beach is my favorite kind of vacation and living in California surely helps in letting me indulge as often as I can .. and in these pics you’ve captured my love for everything beachy beautifully 🙂 totally love the 5th pic 🙂
    Stopping by from Bella’s ..

I know, I know. At least you all get seasons. Not any better?

  28. August 13, 2011 3:07 pm

Makes me miss it. We lived there five years. Still miss Rancho’s in North Park! And what I wouldn’t give some Sundays to get a table at Hash House A Go Go.

    • August 14, 2011 8:37 pm

Oh, the Hash House A Go Go! One of my favorite places.

  29. August 14, 2011 3:35 am

Oh Leah, I was blown away by these photos! It’s like I was there! What a beautiful time you must’ve had! Thank you for sharing such lovely captures with us!

  33. February 9, 2012 7:26 am

What do I think? I think these are beautiful photographs! My sister lives in Carlsbad and we just spent a few weeks there – you live in Nirvana. That I know for sure. Thanks for sharing a day in your beautiful ocean surroundings.

  34. February 9, 2012 7:45 am

It looks like a wonderful day. Beautiful photos.

But that first photo is my favorite. Such a statement of how I see my children so often. Standing and looking. Assessing. Deciding whether or not to jump in. Or just marvelling in wonder. Powerful photo.

  35. February 9, 2012 8:09 am

Awww…much love for San Diego beaches. I write a lot about sun and sand too, considering I live in La Jolla 😉 The perfect way to spend a day with the family, at home at the edge of the world! Nothing quite like it, is there?

    Check me out @

  36. February 9, 2012 8:26 am

  39. February 9, 2012 11:06 am

Now I’m thinking warm thoughts even though it’s awfully cold outside here where I live. What lovely, fun pictures 🙂

Great pictures. Been to San Diego a couple of times for my sons Marine graduation. Love the beach! My daughter wants to live there. I’ll be going back sometime in the next year or so, youngest Marine is stationed at Pendleton.
