Under the Big Top with “The Greatest Show on Earth”

August 2, 2012

Congratulations Christina Cross! You won the family 4-pack of tickets!

When I was very young, my mom took me and my sisters to see the famous Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus. Although I don’t recall many details of the performance, I do remember the amazing animals and a general feeling of magic. Many years later, I was able to share that magic with Sophie as we recently enjoyed a truly incredible circus show by the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents DRAGONS.

Armed with our circus snacks, we drove to Los Angeles (two hours from San Diego) to see the show so I could write about it for Red Tricycle (read the story online). Let me tell you — it was more magical for me today than it was all those years ago, especially seeing the wonder and happiness on Sophie’s face. We had a great time: snacking on circus fare, checking out the toys, getting our picture taken, and of course, seeing the show! Here’s a glimpse of our day.

ATTENTION SAN DIEGO READERS: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents DRAGONS is coming to San Diego from August 23 – 26 at the Valley View Casino Center (San Diego Sports Arena). Do you want to go? Leave a comment for a chance to win a family 4-pack of tickets to any of the San Diego performances!

Pretty incredible, right? I cannot even put into words (well I guess I did) how spectacular this show was! Remember to leave a comment if you want to win a family 4-pack of tickets to any of the San Diego performances. Winner will be drawn randomly at 10 pm on Wednesday, August 8, 2012.

Nothing like seeing something from a child’s eyes. What a great day! Our favorite circus is the Big Apple Circus- they travel all around- if ever in your area try to see it. Artistic, smaller than Ringling, and magical.

It looks like Sophie (and mom) had a great time! I think I went to the circus once growing up, when the Russian or Moscow circus was doing a tour and stopped in Dallas. It’s definitely a sight to be seen. And, um, there are Lilly Pulitzer Animal Crackers?!

I’ve never been to the circus! Crazy, right? After reading The Night Circus, I was dying to find a circus just like that to visit 🙂

Hi, I would love to win these tickets so my 2 yr old & 6 month old babies can see it for the first time. The last time I attended the circus was in Guanajuato, Mexico when I was very a little girl. It was very intertaining. I remember it was free for little kids when accompanied by an adult. I wish we had the same deal here in San Diego :).

Those pictures were awesome!!! I showed them to my girls, Olivia (5yrs) and Lillia (3yrs). Olivia looved the 2nd elephant – on his hind legs – whoa…. Lillia said all the pictures are amazing…. We hope our family has the opportunity to attend the circus!!!

I love the circus. It reminds me of when I was a kid. My dad would always take us. Cotton candy! Elephants! It was so much fun. I want to create these memories for my son.
