What You Don’t Know About Me…

March 24, 2011

I’m an introvert and crave solitude.

The West Wing is my favorite show, and Aaron Sorkin is my hero (except for the cocaine part).

I lived in my college residence hall (aka dormitory) for three years.

I don’t know how to change a tire. And I don’t care to learn (which is why I have a Triple A membership).

When Bryan and I go places, I drive 98% of the time.

I took cake decorating six years ago.

Me (pre-Sophie) and the Big Bird cake I made (2005)

I like older and folksy musicians that tell stories — James Taylor, Brandi Carlile, Lyle Lovett, Mary Chapin Carpenter.

I love the name Olivia.

I can’t eat rice crispy treats (food aversion).

I’m a night owl. (Okay, you probably knew that based on when I post.)

I’m a candy junkie.

When I was in middle school, I had four ingrown toe nail surgeries.

My first job was at a Dairy Queen. I can still dip a cone like the best of ’em.

I’ve never seen Forrest Gump (and I have no desire to).

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with the Miss Universe pageant.

My first car was my Grandfather’s Chrysler LeBaron convertible. I truly believe that car was haunted because he hit a bear with it in Lake Tahoe.

I’ve never had a cavity.

I drink a glass of non-fat milk with dinner nearly every night. (Perhaps why I don’t have cavities.)

Bryan and I have been known to discover a TV show and watch every single episode in a marathon weekend: Arrested Development, House, Freaks and Geeks, Law and Order: SVU (That one’s mine; Bryan hates that show).

I love the Peanuts characters!

My dogs and Peanuts characters. Courtney, who designed my header and sidebar, drew those free-hand. Wow, my carpet was clean! (Halloween 2006)

I traveled to Israel in December 1996 and spent that New Year’s Eve in a Tel Aviv cafe.

I am among many Scorpios. My mom’s birthday is November 5. My birthday is November 6. My mother-in-law’s birthday is November 6. My late grandfather’s birthday is November 8. Sophie’s birthday is November 9.

Up until a few years ago, in order to fall asleep I would make up scenarios and create dialogue in my head based on television and movie characters I liked.

So what don’t I know about you?

Do it … NOW! And share it with me.

Well I guess that sums you up to a “T” and I like that. I love animals especially cats. I love to read anything. I am a night owl. My desire is to publish a poems book and ebooks. I ask tons of people to help me and they don’t. It’s like they have a secret and don’t want to share it. I love your header and what your friend did for you with the charlie brown.

Thanks, Jackie. I can relate to how you feel when asking people for help. Thanks for stopping by!

Leah, What a fun blog idea! I might do something similar at some point…. hope that’s ok? What we have in common: I’m also an introvert (one of my first blogs was about being an INFJ), also a night owl (but I also get up very early), I’ve always wanted to take a cake decorating class, and I’ve never seen (nor want to see) Forrest Gump! Oh, I’m also a candy junkie! However, I DO know how to change a tire & am lactose intolerant & my first job was at a donut shop! Thanks for a way fun post. (We’re kind of thinking along similar lines….my post today is about my desk, inviting other writers to share their desks, too! Cheers, Julia

That’s my MB type too. You should write a post like this. It was fun to do! Can’t wait to read your post today.

should’ve known you were an INFJ, yep 2% club rules!

No cavities? I’m so jealous! I’m also jealous of the clean carpet, but I’m assuming that was pre-Sophie as well. 🙂

As a child, I was shy and timid and rarely spoke to anyone other than family. Now that I’m grown, I’m much more comfortable speaking to others, but constantly put my foot in my mouth. I’m better off writing instead of talking.

Thanks! Oh yeah, that carpet was pre-Sophie and pre-cats. It’s bad now. I don’t mind talking with people and can be social. But given the choice, I’d rather be alone with my thoughts.

A fellow West Wing lover! I knew I liked you. 😉

And ditto on the tire, I GUESS I could figure it out if I HAD to — aka deserted road, two crying kids, no help in sight — but really, AAA here I come baby!

But you are missing out with Forest Gump — very cute.

    TGIF.

Okay, maybe I’ll try Forrest Gump since you suggest it.

Neat list. Those Peanuts characters are amazing. My first job was at DQ too (I made the DQ difference), but I’m not sure what the “coin” is.

Great list Leah, thanks for sharing! I can share with many on your list (go Scorpios) and calling it a “residence hall” instead of a dorm is one of the hardest things I have had to adjust to working on a college campus. As for me, I think one thing people are surprised to learn about me is that I was the statistician for the varsity baseball team in my high school. I think this surprises people because: a) I’m a girl; b) I’m not athletic; c) Despite my last name, I dropped my stats class three times in college and I usually can’t grasp anything statistical. But I LOVE baseball! Have a great weekend!

That’s so cool about the baseball statistician! Love it. And yes, I still can’t get used to calling it a residence hall. But those Housing folks will eat you alive if you say dorm.

How fun getting to know you! Way to go: no cavities! I took a cake decorating class years and years ago, and my skills have waned … LOVED it, though. We have much in common: I’m a candy junkie, too. Can no longer change a tire (though I was once taught that as well. For me, if I don’t “use it,” I “lose it.”)

But one question: how can a communications/PR gal be an introvert???

Don’t get me wrong; I like people and talking to them. But given the choice, I’d rather work alone. I don’t get my strength from working in teams of people.

I transferred colleges my sophomore year, but then lived in the same “residence hall” for the last 3 years of school. I made a similar list (well, mine was so long, I created 3 different posts about it) –

Nice to meet you allover again! Really no Forrest Gump? I loved that movie, it was my way to “discover” america! I love all the people, the only people i don’ like – pushy sales people.
I love to travel and if i could i would travel around the world!

You’re the second person who told me to watch Forrest Gump. Maybe I’ll reconsider.

This post was so much fun to read! What a cool way to get to know one another -in little tidbits that would perhaps otherwise not get blogged 🙂 I think you’ve inspired a couple of us to do something similar. And it sounds like you don’t mind?
