Work, Marriage and Family: Navigating the Balance

August 11, 2011

I know what you’re saying. Work, marriage and family — Can there be a balance? Well, follow me over to Such Small Steps where I’m guest blogging and find out what I think.

Let me tell you about Erin and her blog, Such Small Steps. Erin found my blog because she was searching for information about Alice Ozma, and the post I wrote about her popped up. Turns out we have much in common (including the fact we both live in San Diego). I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Erin and I know our friendship will continue (online and in-person).

I’m very proud to participate in Erin’s “Having it All” series as I think Erin herself is an amazing working mother. So head over to Such Small Steps and read all about my thoughts on parenting while having a career; what’s surprised me about motherhood; balancing marriage and parenting; my advice for working moms; and where I will be five years from now!

Balance is so hard, especially during transitions! We’re trying to figure that out now with my husband’s new job that gets him home late. Thanks for weighing in on this subject!

Really liked your post on transitions and balance. It’s a constant struggle. I’m not sure if there will ever be a balance. But we try!

It truly is a tight rope act to accomplish work, marriage and family. No one comes out unscathed, but we can make it easier by lightening the load. I’m on my way right now…

That’s why I haven’t had kids yet–I still haven’t figured out how to balance everything!

Don’t rush into anything. There’s plenty of time!

Great interview, Leah! I’m trying to think back to when I was a young mother and how I handled working full time (teaching), raising three kids and a husband, and going to graduate school. I know it is darn hard to maintain a balance and carve out some time for yourself and your hubby, but it sounds like you’ve got it figured out.

Thank you! I don’t know if I have it all figured out. But I feel like it’s something I’m working on and aware of each day. It’s tough, that balancing act.
