2026 vs. 2016

2016 … This was a year that changed my life. It was the year we moved to Indiana and when my life began in so many ways.

If I’m being honest, it’s hard for me to look back at photos of myself from ten years ago. I look at my eyes and face and I can see all l was feeling and carrying inside. I see not just the physical weight, but what it truly was — the emotional weight and mental heaviness I didn’t even know I was holding until so many years later.

But more and more, I’ve been trying to look at those old photos in a different way. And that’s through a lens of compassion. I have to remind myself that I didn’t know then that life could be any different. I have to remind myself that the old version of me is still me. And 40-year-old me deserves the same love that 50-year-old me feels.

All that being said, there is one thing that’s remained the same in 2016 and 2026 photos. And that’s the bond between me and Sophie. The feelings of love and joy and the adventures we share are present in those photos and they’re still present today. And I never tire of looking at that. ❤️
