When most of us think about 9/11, our first thoughts tend to go to New York City and the World Trade Center. But at 9:37 a.m on September 11, 2001., AA Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon building, killing all 64 passengers on the airplane and 125 people in the building.
I visited the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon when I was in Arlington last week. The site is beautiful and expansive and contains a bench for each victim with their name inscribed upon it, and just below the bench is a reflecting pool of water. The benches line up according to years — the victims’ birth years, to be exact. So all the people born in 1975 have benches that follow a line through the memorial. The youngest victim’s bench was the only one in the year 1998, as she was only 3-years-old. It was heartbreakingly beautiful to see colorful rubber ducks left on her bench.
The Pentagon memorial was a deeply moving and powerful reminder of all the lives lost that day … may their memories be a blessing. 🇺🇸🎗
