A false glimmer … on a stormy and overcast day
Those of you who are “Homeland” fans may recognize the words “a false glimmer” from the season five finale that gutted me and made me weep for days. I won’t spoil the reference for those who haven’t seen that episode (side note: watch season five!).
But I will say the phrase originated in a history book and referred to the very brief periods of peace during wartime. Those brief periods were false glimmers of hope, if you will.
The temporary sunlight this evening – on this dreary first day of spring – is a symbolic false glimmer, a reprieve between the earlier rainstorms and the impending storm ahead.
