For my entire life, I wanted a porch swing — a place in my yard where I can rock back and forth, reading my books and surrounded by nature. My backyard in San Diego wasn’t that appealing (dead grass and drought problems), so I didn’t spend much time outside. When I came to Indiana, I had high hopes for a porch swing. But it never happened.
So when I moved into my new house a few months ago, I made an empowered decision: I would buy myself a porch swing. And thanks to the COVID-19 relief funds, that’s what I did.
Now, while I have discovered some new-found confidence with respect to my home maintenance work, assembling furniture is not in my skill set (nor do I care for it to be). But luckily, I know people with those skills. A friend offered to assemble the porch swing and I happily took him up on it. He’s a busy guy! But he gave me a few hours of his time this evening, which I deeply appreciate.
I’m currently sitting on my new porch swing, sipping a cider and looking out at the first of the fireflies to arrive. Not a bad Thursday night.
