I’ve been a freelance writer, working on my own, for 11 years. In this year of 2022, I earned the most I’ve ever made on my own (this includes the years working in San Diego). While that’s an achievement, what I’m most proud of is this. …
The year 2018 yielded the least amount of income in those 11 years. The reason for that is I significantly cut back on my freelance work when I moved to Indiana because my ex-husband became the primary breadwinner in our home. In 2019, we separated and I had to build myself back up (WAY UP) financially to support myself and my daughter, including keeping us afloat during the slow-down of 2020. I worked very hard these last few years to do that. So the fact that 2022 is my highest income year to date feels like a celebration of that work.
This is not to say I don’t have financial worries, because I absolutely do; including a big pile of debt I’m working hard to pay down. But I can only take it one day … one week … one month … one year at a time.
I am incredibly grateful to my clients, some of whom have been with me from the very early years. They continue to trust me with their business and refer me to others. I’m also grateful to the businesses and people here in Terre Haute that allow me to write for them, support them, tell their stories and teach their students. I’ve worked very hard to be where I am today, but I absolutely wouldn’t be here without those of you who supported me in 2022, and all the years before! THANK YOU! 💛
