Hanging Up Running Medals

I hung up pictures and memories in my home office today. On the wall close to my desk are my running medals and race bibs. The medals are finisher medals; meaning I didn’t get them because I placed in a race. But looking at them reminds me of what I’ve accomplished and it makes me happy thinking about the friends I ran those events with.

I have A LOT of race bibs; way more bibs than medals. But the three race bibs that are displayed on their own – Hawthorn Half Day, Crossroads Half Marathon and IT 100 – are the races I’m most proud of running. All my running events have significance, but those three are special me.

I’ve never run a race for a medal or to win. I’ve always run them for the opportunity to run, support the community, have a unique experience, and spend time with friends I’ve come to love. And at a time when I can’t see those people as often as I want, and all my upcoming races/events have been canceled, that wall is a reminder of so many great memories and the ones I’ve yet to make.
