Happy Birthday to my sister, Sari!

When I started college, Sari was 11 years old. She would write me letters about the happenings of her daily life and send them to my dorm room at San Diego State University. And of course, I wrote her back immediately, always choosing just the right card or piece of stationery from my elaborate collection of correspondence materials.

As time went on and email became a thing, we switched our mode of communication to electronic letter-writing. Our emails continued through the years, especially when I moved to Indiana. Over the last year, we “talk” through the Marco Polo app, but still send each other emails because both Sari and me write to work out our feelings. Our emails are like journal entries … stories of our current trials and tribulations, sorrows and joys, frustrations and observations. Just writing my life “stories” and knowing Sari reads them makes me feel better. And very few things make me as happy as waking up to an email from my sister.

Happy Birthday, Sari! You are beautiful, inside and out. I’m in awe of your strength. You are an amazing mom to Quentin. And I’m so proud to call you my sister. 💕
