It wouldn’t be a last day of school without the obligatory photo. Although I never imagined I’d be taking Sophie’s photo in pajamas and in the afternoon because she slept until noon. I could have had her dress up and wear her backpack so she’d match the first day photo. But this photo represents the current reality; and we’re nothing if not real.
Neither of us expected her last day of sixth grade (her first year of middle school) to end this way. But such is life. She’s ready for summer break which, for the next few weeks, won’t look much different than the current days. And I’m ready to be done with remote learning packets.
It’s been a new, exciting, challenging, different school year. Yet despite of it all, I continue to be immensely proud of this kid.
