Today is April 24. Reading my perpetual journal reminded me of the significance of this day. While I share quite a bit with those of you who care to read these little pieces of my writing, I don’t feel inclined to share the events that shaped April 24 for me.
But I will say this … The first two are somewhat related, and both occurred over two decades ago, and the memory of those events are bittersweet. The other event happened more recently and left me feeling broken and questioning, but it also propelled me forward. And all three situations were matters of the heart. I tried very hard not to give these events heavy weight on my mind today, but they were present nonetheless.
Affirming my belief that things find you when you most need them … At one point today, I discovered a new writer to follow and the tagline of her blog really struck me:
“Life is beautiful and brutal, tender and terrible – keep your heart open”
What a perfect phrase! And so indicative of the April 24 events of my past, and life in general.
I kept my heart open today. Because while life is certainly brutal and hurts at times, somehow, the beauty and tenderness makes it all worthwhile.
