This photo, mainly Sophie with the pumpkin beanie, is a perfect summation of my daughter’s personality. Sophie wasn’t even a year old and I was beyond excited for her first trip to the pumpkin patch. I bought her that little pumpkin beanie specifically for the trip and photos.
We got to the patch and I put the beanie on her and into the stroller she went. Within five minutes of being there, she’d taken it off her head and discarded is somewhere on the ground. I, of course, was distraught. We re-traced our steps and luckily I found the beanie. But it was clear she did not want to wear it. Eventually, I managed to get it on her head for this photo, this one photo. All the other photos at the patch do not have Sophie in the pumpkin beanie. And you’ll notice, she’s trying to remove it.
The ironic thing is, I have a photo of her at about a year and a half – in May – where she went through a phase where she only wanted to wear the pumpkin beanie. IN MAY! That is quintessential Sophie. Probably the same reason she wears long sleeves in the summer, and no jacket in the winter.
Even at 11 months old, Sophie had strong opinions of what she wanted and would follow her own rules. She has always been her own person, and never did anything because I wanted her to. It’s a blessing and a curse, but at least she’s consistent. And I have hope that it will (hopefully) serve her well in life.
