Orchard House, home of the Alcott family and where Louisa May Alcott wrote “Little Women”
When I was young, my mom introduced me and my three sisters to the 1949 movie of “Little Women” starring Elizabeth Taylor and June Allyson. On Christmas Day 1994, my sisters and I watched the Wynona Ryder version in the theater together (my favorite adaptation). I read the book in high school and it still sits on my bookshelf.
So much of “Little Women” reminds me of my own sisters and our “marmie.” When I moved to Indiana from San Diego, I wrote that I only hope I could be as brave as Jo March when she left her home in Concord for the unknown New York City. … Louisa May Alcott’s story has such a special place in my heart. And Jo, and Louisa, remain some of my heroines and biggest inspirations in life.
My eyes filled with tears so many times as I walked through the Alcott’s home, felt Louisa’s presence and saw her desk where she wrote “Little Women.” Visiting Orchard House was so incredibly special. ❤️
