Remembering the Fallen … and Forgotten

Every Memorial Day weekend, I take myself to run around ISU’s Memorial Stadium. The one-mile stadium outline is shaped as the state of Indiana and lined with American flags for the holiday weekend. … I like little traditions like that. They help me feel centered; to feel a part of something greater than me.

While running around those flags, I thought about this past year. … And in a year that’s left many of us in isolation and solitude, physical or mental, by quarantines or whatnot, how easy it is for people to feel forgotten. Maybe that’s why I like simple traditions like this, seeing the flags border the stadium and running around them. It helps me to remember. To not forget. To feel less forgotten. To keep running toward the future.
