Ripples: Writing My Truth for Others

RIPPLES

A little over two years ago, I published a personal blog post called “The Slow and Steady Unraveling of a Marriage.” I only ever write for (and can only speak for) myself; but, I always hope my words resonate and can maybe help others feel less alone in what they may be facing in life.

I received this message from a reader the other night. …

“I messaged you two years ago to the week when I read your piece about the slow unravel of a marriage. I was scared, broken, exhausted and literally dead inside. Two years later I am free from that hopeless marriage and living a life I’m proud of that fills me up every day. I don’t know what my path could’ve looked like, but I know your piece gave me the validation and encouragement I needed to even consider being brave for myself. We all go through this life just trying to do our best. I just wanted to take a minute to tell you that you quite literally changed my life for the better because you were willing to be vulnerable to an unknown world. So thank you, thank you, thank you. It’s not an easy road, but my goodness, it’s so worth it.”

There’s a line in a Mary Chapin Carpenter song that says, “You can change a stranger’s life by letting yours begin.”

Sometimes, all we can do is:

Begin.
Start.
Be vulnerable.
Share.

And doing that creates a ripple effect that someone, somewhere, feels … and that is how change happens.
