Cross country season came to a close last weekend with our conference meet in Evansville. Well, it’s almost to an end since one of our runners will be competing this coming week in our NATIONAL competition. But the rest of the team is enjoying the break before heading into indoor track season.
Here’s the truly special thing about this team — there is no drama. No cattiness. No competition (with each other). Everyone is there to push themselves to new limits and support their fellow teammates. And it’s all centered around one thing: running. That is the mindset that drives me and my running every day. And I believe that mindset is what helped all of them have such a great season.
A memorable moment that I will always take with me came at our meet last weekend. One of our senior runners, because of many injuries and surgeries since his freshman year, never really had the opportunity to race. But, he decided to run the conference meet as the end of his cross country career. Seeing him finish that race, in what I called his “Rudy” moment, was truly special and I’m so proud of him.
I’m incredibly proud of ALL these young women and men, and the season they had. They inspire me and reinforce how running continues to give so much to my life.
