On April 20, 2018, I ran from one end of the Heritage Trail to the other side of town for a total of seven miles. That was the longest I’d run to that point and I was so proud of myself.
The following year, I ran that trail again … and turned around and ran back, making it the first time I’d run a half marathon distance. I did that with five friends by my side and we celebrated together that evening. That 2019 April day was truly special. ✨✨✨
Since 2020, I’ve come to run mainly by myself, and that’s perfectly fine with me. Running is my companion, my therapy and the place I do my best thinking, and writing (seriously, the number of times I pause my watch to pull out my phone notes to jot things down …). And while I may run alone, I’ve never once felt lonely while moving out there.
Seeing that today is April 20, I decided to take myself back to the Heritage Trail for a planned 10 miles. My friend, Hannah, joined me for four of the miles, all while pushing her two foster kiddos in a stroller. 💪🏼 I forget how quickly the time and miles pass with friends by your side. 😊 And I ran into several people, stopping to chat with a few of them. … It was a really beautiful spring morning out there on the trail today. 🌿💛🍃
