The Great Pumpkin Patch

As Sophie gets older, the holiday traditions seem to get more fun. This was certainly the case for our annual visit to Bates Nut Farm pumpkin patch. Bates is a San Diego mainstay. They harvest their own pumpkins – from Big Macs to jack-o-lanterns to squashes – right in their own fields. This pumpkin patch is amazing; pumpkins as far as the eye can see. Surely, the Great Pumpkin would visit Bates on Halloween.

Aside from the pumpkins, Bates Nut Farm has so much fun with a petting zoo, farm animals, pony rides, hay rides, and their famous store filled with nuts (of course), candy, fudge, decorations, you name it! This year’s trip to the pumpkin patch included Sophie’s first pony ride, our first hayride (which I think resulted in hay fever for all three of us), and sliding down the jumpie slide. You’ll notice from our flushed faces that it was not quite autumn weather, but more like the last days of summer.
