The movie “Hoosiers” premiered on November 14, 1986. We all know the story of the small town Hickory Huskers and the coach who brought them to a state championship win. The movie was inspired by Milan High School’s (Milan, Indiana) incredible run when the small school beat the much larger Muncie Central to win the 1954 state championship.
“Hoosiers” is one of my dad’s favorite movies. He was excited to hear that two of my cross country runners hail from Milan and the high school on which the movie’s Hickory Huskers are based. When my parents visited seven years ago, we visited the original Hoosier Gym where the movie was filmed.
I never would guessed that when dad took me to see “Hoosiers” 38 years ago, I’d one day find myself living in Indiana and calling it home.
