Last week, I introduced my students to Bob Dylan. Not too surprising, only four students were familiar with Dylan before class. The teaching concept was rhetoric and rhetorical analysis.
Together, we listened to “The Times They are A-Changin’” and they studied the lyrics on a printed handout. We analyzed the song, the voice, the words, the context, how it’s relevant today. The class then wrote their own mini analysis of a song of their choice.
My hope for those students is they now feel more confident to write a rhetorical analysis … and that they’ll continue to discover the genius of Bob Dylan.
