Unlocked: Writing Inspiration

I encountered this padlock on a recent run. It caught my eye, so I stopped to take a photo, as I frequently do when I find something interesting. Often times, I have no idea why I take the photo. And then, later on, I have an idea or write something that pairs perfectly with the image that fate brought to my attention.

Since this quarantine began, I’ve found myself aching to write. Perhaps because of the increased solitude, my mind has been unlocked, constantly going with so many ideas … ideas for blog posts, these Instagram “micro-blogs,” and longer-form essays that have been in my head but haven’t made their way onto the paper.

A few local writing friends and I have been completing weekly writing prompts on Facebook. I joined an online “truth telling and beauty” writing community led by Jena Schwartz, which has provided so much inspiration. I also enrolled in Jena’s “Mini-Memoir” class for the month of May. This class consists of three weekly prompts to get me writing my BIG personal writing project.

I haven’t been this excited to write in a really long time. The much-needed energy has been encouraging as of late. And whether it’s the quarantine or simply where I am in life, I’m grateful my mind has unlocked itself.
