What Kind of Day Is It?

I write a column for my local community magazine where I highlight cultural holidays that occur each month. While recently doing this research, I realized that there are some fascinating days out there. Let me assure you, there is a day for EVERYTHING!

Lets take December for example. You thought it was the month for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and New Years Eve. But did you know December is also the month for  National Lemon Cupcake Day on December 15? Personally I’m all over this one. And don’t forget National Flashlight Day on December 20.

Here is a list of just a few of the amazing days that you want to be sure get on your calendar!

January 10 – Houseplant Appreciation Day (No wonder mine always die; I don’t appreciate them!)

February 22 – Walking the Dog Day (Lets just say my dogs are not happy I didn’t have this written down sooner.)

March 7 – National Crown Roast of Pork Day

May 3 – Lumpy Rug Day

July 13 – Barbershop Music Appreciation Day

July 14 – National Nude Day

August 6 – Wiggle Your Toes Day

September 2 – National Beheading Day (I’m planning to stay home from work this day!)

September 20 – National Punch Day (I was all over this one and even started compiling my list of people to punch. Then I realized it was the drinking kind.)

October 6 – Come and Take It Day (Is this before Come and Get It Day?)

So mark your calendars for the year ahead. And as I close this post, I’d like to wish you all a very Happy National Fritter Day. Now go get yourself a fried cake or dough to celebrate!
