I recently came across the following Instagram quote that struck me:
2019 changed me.
2020 broke me.
2021 opened my eyes.
2022 I’m coming back.
The sentiments about 2019, 2020 and 2021 are so eerily familiar, like they were written about me and my life. But the idea of “coming back” in 2022 felt wrong. I think because if it’s truly the case that I have been changed, broken and clarified, then I can’t “come back” … because I’m no longer the person I was before those years.
I don’t want to go back to the woman I was at the end of 2018. That person was who I needed then, but she played the role she was meant to play and gave me the courage and strength I needed to create the change that 2019 brought.
Change and breaking down from the person you thought you were is terrifying. But it’s necessary and important and helps us move through life. Every person I was over the last three years helped me grow into who I am today.
I’m not “coming back” … I’ve changed and evolved into a new version of myself. … I don’t know who she is yet, but I’m eager to find out.
